A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life and Work of Sir Kenneth MacMillan was held at Westminster Abbey, London on 17 Feb 1993. The files in this series comprise:

There are three letters and two contracts for Deborah Williams/Lady MacMillan to design the costumes and the sets for Kenneth MacMillan's ballet Quartet for Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet, 1982 and 1986

This file contains correspondence and copies of agreements between Kenneth MacMillan and the Royal Opera House. There are letters and telexes from Michael Oliver, International Creative Management Inc, from John Tooley and Anthony Russell Roberts at the Royal Opera House, handwritten notes by Deborah MacMillan and notes and a draft letter from Kenneth MacMillan referencing his self-employed status and the implications for his pension. The material dates from 197[5] to 1992.

Photocopies of nine agreements and contracts between Kenneth MacMillan and the Royal Opera House for his services as choreographer and Director of The Royal Ballet, with accompanying correspondence and interdepartmental communications. Correspondence includes a letter from John Tooley to MacMillan explaining the Royal Opera House's intention to introduce a contract for choreographers and enclosing a copy for MacMillan's comments, 23 Dec 1959. Later correspondence references conversations with Deborah MacMillan and proposed changes to contracts and rights. The material in this series includes three albums of cuttings, possibly created by Kenneth MacMillan, plus files of loose cuttings collected by Kenneth and Deborah MacMillan, some forwarded to them by the authors or by ballet company press officers. The material comprises original cuttings and photocopies and are from daily newspapers, weekend supplements, academic journals and subject periodicals

Following Kenneth MacMillan's involvement in the Herbert Ross film of Nijinsky, Kenneth MacMillan conceived the idea of a television ballet-drama about Nijinsky's life. He initially discussed the project with London Weekend Television and then with Granada. The material in this file contains correspondence with both organisations and comprises

6. One typed letter from Sir Denis Forman on Granada Television headed notepaper expressing desire to proceed to the next stage with the projected programme about Nijinsky and Diaghilev, which would be to commission Clive James to produce a treatment for the programme, 26 Apr 1979

Photocopies of two letters, one to Violette Verdy at the Paris Opera and one to Marcia Haydee at Stuttgart Ballet confirming that there is no definite news of Nijinsky and expressing concern that Patrick Dupond and Birgit Kiel would be left without roles if the project does not go ahead. 26 Jul 1979

This Library series contains published material collected by Kenneth and Deborah MacMillan and includes press cuttings, books, programmes and periodicals as well as some vinyl LP records.
Press cuttings include interviews with and articles on Kenneth MacMillan, previews and reviews of the ballets and plays he worked on, obituaries and tributes following his death.
This series also contains commercial recordings of vinyl records of music used by Kenneth MacMillan for his ballets.

The material in this file includes negotiations between Kenneth MacMillan and Partner and the Paris Opera Ballet for the production of Manon by the Company. There is correspondence with the Bureau de Musique Mario Bois concerning copyright in the choreography and in the score prepared by Leighton Lucas. There is also correspondence concerning the law suit taken out by Mme.Besson Massenet, a descendent of the composer Jules Massenet, and the National Video Corporation, and between Kenneth MacMillan and Partner agreeing to the ballet being performed as L'Histoire de Manon in France, 1990-1992
