          Archivist's note

Kenneth MacMillan was a great supporter of Benesh Movement Notation and was a member of the Council of Management of the Institute of Choreology from 1973 before becoming Vice-President and then, in 1988, President of the Institute. He worked closely with choreologists during the creation of his ballets, and insisted on named choreologists mounting his works when he was not able to be in the rehearsal studio himself. Deborah MacMillan continued this practice and in addition has funded named choreologists to work on master copies of Benesh Movement Notation Scores of works not previously adequately recorded. These scores are the property of Deborah MacMillan but housed with the Institute of Choreology scores at the RAD Library. Some of the scores in the Kenneth MacMillan Archive are working copies or duplicates of scores found in the RAD Library, others are not found in the RAD Library.
