              The Ankara State Ballet of Turkey contacted Kenneth MacMillan, via the British Council, to ask to stage The Invitation in their 1985-1986 season, and in 1992 to stage Mayerling. Neither project was realised. The letter from The British Council, 6 Mar 1992, has a handwritten draft reply by Kenneth MacMillan

              In 1978 MacMillan's Mayerling directed by Derek Bailey was nominated for, and won, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award for Best Television Documentary. This file contains two tickets, a printed card, typed sheet of the Presentation Ceremony Programme Schedule, a souvenir programme, and a letter of congratulation from David [?], on Sydney Opera House Trust headed notepaper, 5 Oct 1978

              The score for Mayerling was commissioned by Kenneth MacMillan from John/Jack Lanchbery, who used arrangements of music by Franz Liszt. This file comprises of

              1. One handwritten airmail letter to Iris Law, Administrative Assistant at The Royal Ballet, about starting work on the score. 8 Nov 1976
              2. One typed and four handwritten letters from Jack Lanchbery to Kenneth MacMillan, plus one telegram and one photocopy of a letter in the Royal Opera House Archives, discussing the score, its state of preparation, and changes and cuts requested by Kenneth MacMillan. The final letter discusses cuts for when the ballet tours to America and the request for a new song
              3. One page of a handwritten list of Extracts Agreed, in an unidentified hand

There are two invitations to the receptions at the Royal Opera House following the first performance and a letter from Denis Healey, on Treasury Chambers headed notepaper, thanking Kenneth MacMillan for the offer of tickets for the premiere

              Frederick Ashton, dancer and choreographer, was Artistic Director of The Royal Ballet from 1963-1970. The correspondence in this file consists of letters and telegrams of thanks, congratulations and good luck. Most are undated but can be dated from the context.
