This file of correspondence contains letters to and from Kenneth MacMillan during his time as Ballet Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin but is not primarily related to his work there. It includes letters from Ballet Directors of other Companies requesting works and some more personal correspondence. It includes letters from Frederick Ashton, Fleming Flindt, Erik Bruhn, Sona Arova, Vera Volkova, Nora Kaye, Peter Darrell, Joan Thring re MacMillan creating a ballet for Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev and mentioning the RAD Gala for 1969, Margaret Dale, and an invitation to the memorial service for Aenne Pfusch-Schenck von Trapp. It includes letters from the Royal Danish Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet, Norwegian Ballet, the Varna International Ballet Competition, Great Yarmouth Music Club, the British Broadcasting Corporation, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Santiago, Chile, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, Argentina, Queensland Ballet Company and Western Theatre Ballet

Kenneth MacMillan created the one-act ballet Solitaire for Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet which premiered on 5 Jun 1956 at Sadler's Wells Theatre, London. Lorna Mossford was a dancer with the Vic-Wells, later Sadler's Wells and Royal Ballet companies. She became Ballet Mistress to Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet and staged Solitaire when it was performed by the Stuttgart Ballet in 1961. This notebook gives detailed verbal and visual descriptions of the ballet, with some dancers' first names given. Solitaire Property of Lorna Mossford is written on the cover in black biro.
