Kenneth MacMillan was commissioned by Granada Television to create a new version of the Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill The Seven Deadly Sins specifically for the cameras. It was titled The Seven Deadly Sins of the Bourgeoisie following Brecht's original 1933 German title, and included music from The Threepenny Opera. The work was first transmitted on 22.4.1984. Material in the files includes handwritten notes by Kenneth MacMillan, research material, correspondence, rehearsal schedules and camera scripts

This file includes reference materials, pre-production correspondence and some post-production material. It comprises:

1. Three typed pages of biography and two b/w photographs of two ballroom dancers, Peter Maxwell and Vicki Regan
2. Photocopies of reference images of America in the 1920s, plus one page about Kuhle Wampe oder Wem Gehort die Welt? the film worked on by Bertolt Brecht, Germany 1931.
3. One page typed letter from Helen McMurray to Kenneth MacMillan, researcher, enclosing the Auden translation and a plain prose crib from Berlitz Translations, 20.8.1982
4. One handwritten and two typed letters from Helen McMurray to Kenneth MacMillan, enclosing handwritten rehearsal schedule 22.9.1982, timings and some press cuttings 25.11.1982 and draft submission to Equity re Lesley Browne 26.11.1982
5. One typed letter from Steve Hawes, Producer, to Kenneth MacMillan, enclosing information on what was happening in Germany and to the Brechts in the months leading up to the first performance of the Seven Deadlies in Paris, 26.1.1983
6. One handwritten letter from Christopher Logue to Kenneth MacMillan, enclosing copies of correspondence with Granada Television re Logue's commission to prepare a new translation of The Seven Deadly Sins, with a photocopy of his translation of the Prologue, 2.6.1983

Kenneth MacMillan worked with Granada Television on several projects including broadcasts of his ballets. The material in this file includes:

1. A silver coloured folder containing three pages from the Granada Music Catalogue listing Gloria, Isadora and The Seven Deadly Sins, and five pages of Programme Information on a broadcast of two ballets by Frederick Ashton and the series of programmes Man and Music
2. The majority of correspondence in the file is from Denis Foreman and subjects include explaining the difficulties of having Kenneth MacMillan direct his own ballets for television 28 Feb 1980, Isadora, Let's Make a Ballet piece with Jack Gold 13 Aug 1981, the reasons for not recording Rite of Spring and the disappointment of not being able to capture Monica Mason's performance 27 Nov 1981, suggesting Kenneth MacMillan mount a 25 minute ballet on Sherlock Holmes using Margaret Dale's original choreography for The Great Detective 23 May 1984. There is a letter from Zanna Northam thanking Kenneth MacMillan for agreeing to be interviewed for a film on Christopher Gable, 19 Jan 1989
