Kenneth MacMillan was invited to be a member of the jury for the Annual Examination of dancers at the Paris Opera Ballet in 1977. The material in this file includes the invitation, instructions and list of the jury, a printed folder with an history and introduction to the Annual Examination with the names of dancers and roles for 1977, and seven typed forms with Kenneth MacMillan's handwritten comments. Kenneth MacMillan created the one-act ballet Concerto for the Deutsche Oper Ballet which premiered on 30 Nov 1966 at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin. The ballet was first performed by the Royal Ballet Touring Company in 1967 and by the Paris Opera Ballet in 1982. The material comprises:

Handwritten letter from Ninette de Valois to Kenneth MacMillan following the staging by the Royal Ballet Touring Company, saying how much she enjoyed the ballet but how it suffered from the choreographer not being there. 3. Telegram from Frederick Ashton to Kenneth MacMillan expressing his delight in the triumph of Concerto, 22 May 1967

It includes a printed booking form, casting details, rehearsal schedules, a telegram from Rolf Lieberman referencing the difficulties that have occurred, agreements and payments, an invitation to the reception after the first night, and two handwritten cards from Violette [Verdy] one with praise for the dancers in Chant [Song of the Earth], 1978-1979
Other material relates to the impossibility of proceeding with Vivandiere, 1976, the possibility of performing Danses concertantes, 1983-1984, a typed letter from the Bureau de Musique Mario Bois about the possibility of administering the rights of choreographers, a handwritten breakdown of characters in Manon with two copies of typed versions from the Royal Opera House Wardrobe Department, 1989, and a handwritten fax from Deborah MacMillan with a list of fees paid by the Paris Opera Ballet, 1979-1985, 6 Aug 1990

The material in this file includes negotiations between Kenneth MacMillan and Partner and the Paris Opera Ballet for the production of Manon by the Company. There is correspondence with the Bureau de Musique Mario Bois concerning copyright in the choreography and in the score prepared by Leighton Lucas. There is also correspondence concerning the law suit taken out by Mme.Besson Massenet, a descendent of the composer Jules Massenet, and the National Video Corporation, and between Kenneth MacMillan and Partner agreeing to the ballet being performed as L'Histoire de Manon in France, 1990-1992
