The correspondence in this file includes students researching for school projects and undergraduate thesis, members of the public seeking information about music for ballets, journalists wishing to interview Kenneth MacMillan including the Kennel Club, and designers asking Kenneth MacMillan to look at their work. There is an autograph draft reply to one letter, one of the letters has handwritten domestic notes on the reverse and one envelope has pencil sketches on the reverse

The material in this file consists mainly of correspondence sent to Kenneth MacMillan suggesting stories, scenarios or music that he might be interested in creating ballets to. The correspondence mainly consists of a single letter, often with no reply. Some of the writers are known to Kenneth MacMillan, the majority are not. The material comprises:

Ballerina Nora Kaye met Kenneth MacMillan in 1956 when he choreographed Winter's Eve for American Ballet Theatre. Nora Kaye and her husband, choreographer and director Herbert Ross were great friends of Kenneth MacMillan and his family. The material in this file consists mostly of letters expressing that friendship. It comprises
