American Ballet Theatre first performed the full-length The Sleeping Beauty in 1976 in a production by Mary Skeaping in costumes and scenery by Oliver Messel that were from The Royal Ballet's production of 1946. The folder in this file contains biographies of the creators of the work and the 1976 production, and articles and excerpts from publications covering the source of the story, the music, Marius Petipa and the original version, and historical context. Later additions to the folder include photocopies of notes from the programme for The Royal Ballet's 1977 production, and press reviews of performance by various companies. In his third season as Artistic Associate, Kenneth MacMillan mounted a new production of the three-act ballet The Sleeping Beauty. The material in this folder comprises draft cast lists with annotations by Kenneth and Deborah MacMillan, correspondence with Nicholas Georgiadis, correspondence re conductors, cost comparisons and a draft budget, one issue of On Point, the magazine of the Friends of American Ballet Theater with an article on The Making of The Sleeping Beauty and one 1987 Special Edition Book on The Making of The Sleeping Beauty with articles and black and white photographs

In March 1987 there was an exchange of correspondence between Kenneth MacMillan, his agent Michael Oliver, and Charles France at American Ballet Theatre about Monica Parker's involvement in casting decisions for The Sleeping Beauty.
